The 8-bit philosophy 2

Back in 2012, a very famous documentary was released covering the amazing history of 8-bit music and how it moved on from the homebrew C64 days to modern gaming consoles, and in the 40 minutes it was jam-packed with amazing interviews with musicians.

Now the group is back, with the long awaited sequel, and this one going to do in-depth with the 'Warez Scene' and interview leaders of various famous release groups like Razor1911, Fairlight and how they played both the 'good guy' and 'bad guy' with the gaming world!

The second part of the documentary "The 8-Bit Philosophy 2 - The God and the Bad Guys" is all about the Cracker groups of the time. What made the active members of AFL, Fairlight, Razor 1911, TRSI or Triad to spend their youth before the Amiga/C64? Filmmaker Konstantin Stuerz was part of the scene as a Shining8 member. Hated by the companies, aroused by a whole generation of gamers: the crackers - the good and the bad guys.

The Meteoriks

We are very proud to host the prizegiving ceremony of The Meteoriks - an award to honor demoscene productions of 2016.

The winners of 10 community-chosen categories as well as a New Talent and Public Choice award will be presented to the public on Friday, April 14th, 20:00.

A screening of all winner entries will take place on Saturday, April 15th, 21:00 in the seminar area.

For those staying at home, both the ceremony and the screening will be streamed live and made available on YouTube afterwards.

Shader Showdown - Live Coding Competition

They started it in 2013 at WeCan, then Revision gave the livecoders the big stage they deserve, and now it's 2017 and they are back once again and hungrier than ever before.

On Friday night and Saturday afternoon - the ultimate fight of knowledge, persistence and crowd-pleasing skills will again take place: The Shader Showdown Live Coding Competition.

What does it all mean? At Revision 2017, 8 coders will compete one-on-one in a live-shader-coding single elimination tournament over two days.

On Friday - The Elimination Round: Four battles where the respective winners move to the Saturday Finals.
On Saturday - The Finals: Two battles in the Semifinals and one breathtaking Final round to determine the ultimate live-coder!

The crowd can watch both coders in split-screen mode. An audio feed will be provided by a DJ - who will play to the visuals the coders produce on the screen. All battles will be moderated live by hosts who can't code and coders who can't host. Winners will be determined by crowd voting.

Interested in participating? As always, the most important ingredients for a successful live coding competition are the coders. In the three previous editions of the Shader Showdown the Revision audience has witnessed great feats of coding prowess as well as some instances of spectacular failure. If you think you can achieve greatness again, if you want to redeem yourself from your less than stellar previous performance, or if you want to show the world that you can beat the coders who have graced our stage so far- in any of those cases, this is your opportunity.
Please send your application to hotline-2017@revision-party.net. In order to be eligible for competition, you have to be present in or near the E Werk and available to compete on stage between 22.00 on Friday, April 14th and 14.30 on Saturday, April 15th.

We'd like to emphasize that the organizing team is welcoming applications from demoscene veterans as well as new recruits, or even complete outsiders. Last but not least, if you are a true multimedia artist who has DJ skills besides an excellent grasp of shader coding techniques, please do not forget to mention that in your application. We'll announce the eight contestants roughly one week before Revision!

Revision 5k Run

The traditional SPORT(ish) event you all love will happen again: The exhausting fun 5k Run!

And you can be part of it! All you need to do is to bring your running gear and show up at the infodesk on Saturday morning, April 15th at around 11:00

Even if you're out of shape or very shapely - just do it. Even D.Fox did it at TRSAC and came in superlast! But he prevailed to live another day.

And don't worry about getting lost - we'll take good care of you during the run! We even have prepared a little stop where you can refresh yourself with some nice beverages.

And afterwards, you will feel pain good, tired fuzzy and dead warm inside. You will be on top of the world. And you should have plenty of time to take a shower, grab a beer and be ready for the first compo of the day.

Did we mention that we stole this idea from the TRSAC organizers? Now you know - all credits go to them <3!
